Become an inspirational film coach and get paid assignments!

Minikronieken is looking for freelance filmmakers in the Eastern Netherlands who would like to coach trainees in the production of short documentaries. Are you a passionate filmmaker and want to help schoolchildren and special populations discover their talents and creativity with filmmaking? Then seize the opportunity now to learn teaching skills and qualify as a film coach. In cooperation with Tetem, Minikronieken offers a training for this, which includes making your own short film that will be screened at the Film Festival Oldenzaal, with a chance of a nomination for Twente Short. You will receive professional guidance and work with your fellow filmmakers, with whom you will exchange tips and tricks. By participating, you will not only deepen your professional knowledge, but also boost your network in the film industry in your area! What is the Mini Chronicles method?

Using the Mini Chronicles method, students or trainees create short documentary films with life stories in a 6-8 week project. They are coached by professional creators in the process. The Mini Chronicles production concludes with a film premiere.

 

Mini Chronicles has its own curriculum for secondary schools, with theory book, instructional videos and practice assignments. So as a film coach, you have a structured program to follow. This allows you to fully focus on conveying your passion to students. You will foster their skills in storytelling, in-depth interview, camera techniques, sound and editing. In addition, you will teach them to plan and organize, reflect on their learning and the quality of their production.

Who is the film coach training for?

You can participate if you:

  • Have relevant professional training in media production
  • makes professional films or participates as a creator in professional film productions
What can you expect when you attend this training?

Once you have successfully completed this training, you may work as a freelancer on various projects of Minikronieken. These projects have been organized for over 10 years in Overijssel and Gelderland, and since 2023 there has been an exchange with Suriname. In order to offer actual paid assignments to everyone who qualifies as a film coach through this training, the number of participants is limited. Assignments will be announced through the Mini Chronicles website. This training is a powerful collaboration between Tetem and Minikronieken. Upon successful completion of this course, it will open the door for you to work as a film coach for Minikronieken. Guide scholars and amateur filmmakers in creating compelling life stories that appeal to a wide audience.

Two intercultural projects await: push your boundaries literally and figuratively

Two exciting projects are already waiting for you for the upcoming school year. One is an international exchange, where we will collaborate with filmmakers and schools in Suriname. Here is your chance to make valuable contacts across the border. The other project is with young adult refugees whom you may inspire to make a creative production.

Demonstrate your expertise: Share your specialties and, together with fellow students, lift the art of filmmaking to new heights!

You bring with you not only your passion, but also your expertise as a filmmaker. In this training, you will exchange specializations with your fellow students and coach each other to fine-tune these skills. Together you will evolve in the field of documentary filmmaking, resulting in valuable skill development.

The train-the-trainer course offers you the chance to do a hands-on assignment: create your own Mini Chronicle. Work with professional equipment and join forces with talented fellow students. This interactive experience enhances your learning and offers new insights.

The fruits of your efforts will be rewarded with a prominent screening of your Mini Chronicle at the prestigious Oldenzaal 2023 Film Festival. A fantastic opportunity to showcase your masterpiece to a wide audience and enjoy the recognition your creative efforts deserve.

Training times and location

Classes are weekly on Wednesday evenings, from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m., with the exception of fall break (North). From 6 p.m. you are welcome for a bread meal with soup, this is included in the price.

  • Film equipment for shooting and computers for editing are available, these may be reserved at no charge.

 

  • Own cameras are welcome, if desired you will receive specific operating tips

Participation costs 195 euros, which includes meals prior to classes.

Film coaches selected for the Suriname Project do not pay for participation but are required to attend this training.
