Would you like to immerse yourself and become proficient in the craft of documentary filmmaking this summer? Then sign up as a student for the Mini Chronicles project “Streekigen Landbouw” and make a film about a farm under professional supervision.

The course is offered to you by the Stichting Landschap Overijssel. Students do not pay a course fee but, in return, collaborate on one of the 7 documentary films being made.

In the project, the family histories of 7 farms are told and portrayed in Mini Chronicles, films of about 10 minutes. For each film, a crew of 2 students is formed with a professional filmmaker as coach and director.

The 7 Mini-Chronicles will be published on the website of Landschap Overijssel and shown at the Provinciehuis in Overijssel. In addition, they will be submitted to the ‘Twents festival of short films’ and have a chance to be selected by the professional jury for screening during that festival, on November 6, 2022.

Course content and participation

You will receive 3 Saturdays of training in making life story documentaries. Components include: filming, storytelling, interviewing and editing.

On 3 other days you and your crew will go out and shoot film. You plan the shooting days with your own crew and in consultation with the farms. The project starts on July 2.

Participation in the course is free, including coffee, tea and lemonade. Please bring your own lunch. Travel expenses are at your own expense.

Dates, location and time commitment

The course will be held at Landgoed De Horte in Dalfsen.

Carpool arrangements can be made on the first day of the course.

PLEASE NOTE the start date has changed. June 18 will be cancelled, the first course day will be July 2.
Course days are from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the following Saturdays:
Course day 1: July 2
Course day 2: July 16

Course day 3: in consultation with the students

For those who want to learn how to edit, there are an additional 2 course days:
Course day 4 (assembly): September 3 from 12 – 5 pm
Course day 5: (assembly): September 7 from 10 – 15 hrs.

A Mini Chronicles project is always a collaboration between the participants, the people about whom the films are about and the organization for whom the films are made.

Participation is free but not without obligation. As a student, you are expected to attend all course days and take responsibility for completing your production, along with your crew. In consultation, much is always possible. We work on the basis of trust.

It goes without saying that we adhere to the AVG and handle personal information with great care. Trainees also receive clear instruction regarding confidentiality of visual materials. Nothing is made public without permission.
